The collaboration was unveiled during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Office of Education Quality Assurance in Alausa, Ikeja, with representatives of public and private schools, education associations and government agencies in attendance.
Speaking at the event, the General Manager of LASRRA, Bilikiss Adebiyi-Abiola, said the exercise aims to ensure that every student in Lagos has a LASRRA identification number.
She explained that possession of a LASRRA number is already a requirement for admission into public schools and that the new initiative seeks to improve the registration process through technology and closer collaboration with education districts.
“For public schools, having a LASRRA number is already a requirement for enrolment. What we are doing now is improving the process by using technology and working closely with the various districts,” she said.
Adebiyi-Abiola noted that many students in private schools are yet to register with LASRRA, adding that officials would carry out on-site registration across different parts of the state in collaboration with school administrators.
She disclosed that the registration process would take less than five minutes per student and is expected to be completed within a few months.

The LASRRA boss also revealed that students and teachers in both public and private schools would be issued standardised identity cards under the programme.
She added that discussions are ongoing with the National Identity Management Commission to simplify the registration of students for their National Identification Numbers (NIN).
According to her, schools will conduct pre-registration of students before LASRRA officials visit for biometric capture and verification, a process designed to reduce waiting time and congestion.
She further stated that LASRRA would expand access to identity registration through its centres across local government areas in Lagos.
Also speaking, the Director-General of the Office of Education Quality Assurance, Sulaimon Ogunmuyiwa, said the government would launch radio and television awareness campaigns to sensitise parents, students and schools before the exercise begins.
Ogunmuyiwa described the collaboration as part of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to improving public service delivery through inter-agency cooperation.
He said assigning a unique identification number to every student would enable government to maintain accurate education records, monitor academic performance and formulate policies that improve learning outcomes.
“Our goal is to ensure every student in Lagos has a unique identification number while also registering them as residents of the state. The system will help us track their academic progress and provide the support they need to succeed,” he said.
The state government said the initiative would cover all public and private schools and is expected to strengthen educational planning, identity registration and student data management across Lagos.
