The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that candidates seeking admission into education programmes and agriculture-related non-engineering courses will no longer be required to sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Eko Hot Blog reports that the board disclosed the development on Monday through its official X handle during its ongoing 2026 admissions policy meeting.

According to JAMB, the decision forms part of broader efforts to expand access to tertiary education and encourage enrolment into critical sectors such as teaching and agriculture.
“Candidates seeking admissions into Education Programmes and Agriculture non-Engineering Courses are now exempted from UTME,” the board stated.
The latest move follows the Federal Government’s recent decision to remove UTME as a compulsory requirement for candidates seeking admission into Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) programmes in Colleges of Education.

Education stakeholders have described the policy as a significant shift in Nigeria’s admission system, particularly for programmes facing declining student interest over the years.
The development is also expected to encourage more candidates to pursue careers in teaching and agriculture, sectors considered important to national development.
