Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has pledged that his administration will continue to implement policies and programmes that empower women across Lagos State to innovate, thrive, and lead with confidence, Eko Hot Blog reports.
The governor, represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, gave the assurance on Tuesday at the 2025 WAPA Connect Conference themed “Investing in Lagos Women, Investing in Growth” held at the Lagos Continental Hotel, Victoria Island.

Sanwo-Olu said his administration is equipping women with tools, training, and access to finance to enable them to build sustainable futures.

“We are supporting women through vocational training, access to funding, and initiatives that foster innovation, growth, and leadership not just for the bold, but also for widows, single mothers, young girls, and women with disabilities,” he said.
He stressed that investing in women is central to economic growth, justice, and prosperity, adding that the recently launched Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) Policy Roadmap was built on the lived experiences of Lagos women, ranging from entrepreneurs to farmers and professionals.
The First Lady of Lagos, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, represented by Mrs. Funmi Omotoso, also called for deeper collaboration to promote financial literacy, self-reliance, and holistic parenting, assuring that her office would continue prioritising women’s well-being.
Chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs, Princess Lara Olumegbon-Oyekan, said investing in women translates to investing in Lagos’ growth, while Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon. Bolaji Cecilia Dada, highlighted the ministry’s role in training thousands of women through 19 skills acquisition centres.

Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Rianat Onigbanjo, described WAPA Connect as a vibrant platform for building partnerships and creating opportunities, reaffirming government’s commitment to inclusive growth.
