LASDRI partners NURTW, Hosts Recertification Training
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu T.H.E.M.E.S. Agenda on Traffic Management and Transportation, the Lagos State Drivers Institute (LASDRI) has partnered with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) at Iyana Ipaja Motor Park on the need to improve traffic situations across the metropolis through training and recertification of its members.
Speaking at an enlightenment campaign for Professional Drivers, the General Manager, Lagos State Drivers Institute, Mrs. Afusat Tiamiyu, noted that the collaboration was necessary, given the mandate of the Agency to educate and enlighten the drivers on the State government’s commitment to enhance the safety of the motoring public.
Eko Hot Blog learned that she said Lagos has invested heavily in road infrastructure and maintenance, hence the need to continually train the road users on the need to support the government efforts by observing all the traffic rules and regulations, abstaining from driving against traffic on a one-way road and having common respect for all road users.
Tiamiyu said the choice of the location was hinged upon the fact that Iyana Ipaja is one of the most strategic and popular garages which house about six motor parks, stressing that the Agency intends to bring members of the Union at Iyana Ipaja together and strengthen their synergy with the State government through continuous driver-education and training.
While reiterating the importance of safe driving and strict compliance with the existing transportation protocols guiding against the spread of COVID-19 in Lagos State, she opined that so many professional drivers have stopped abiding with the COVID-19 protocols despite the steady increase in cases.

She, therefore, appealed to all the professional drivers to, henceforth, ensure strict compliance with the COVID-19 safety protocols to curb a second wave of the pandemic in the State and Country.
Also speaking at the event, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) Traffic Officer in charge of Iyana Ipaja axis, Abolanle Famakinwa, informed the participants that many lives had been lost through disobeying traffic rules and regulations, charging the commercial vehicle operators to always ensure they obey all road regulations while driving.
In the same vein, Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) Officer, Ayobo Zone, Engr. Akinsanya Adebiyi, urged all motorists to be safety conscious while on the road, adding that they should avoid over-speeding, over-loading and should desist from any act tantamount to dangerous driving.
He further admonished the drivers to ensure proper documentation of their vehicle papers, saying that this is the only way they can steer clear of being apprehended by Law Enforcement Officers
