EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Governing Council of Lagos State University, on Monday 8th November, as part of its oversight function, took a two-day assessment tour of campuses of the University at the Epe Campus, where the faculty of Engineering and School of Agriculture are domiciled.

This online media platform gathered that the Epe Campus finally hit the goldmine as the long-awaited infrastructural overhaul has been worked out by the management of the prestigious institution of higher learning.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni had earlier on Friday, 5th November 2021 led members of the University Management to visit the campus ahead of the Council’s visit.

In his address, the Head of Campus, Prof. Rafiu Okuneye, who received the Governing council led by Sir. David Sunmoni, FCA, KJW, recalled the history of the campus and the trajectory of its development to date.

He expressed the readiness of the campus to accommodate the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, part of the vision of the Vice-Chancellor.

“The Chairman Governing Council, Sir, Epe is eagerly waiting for the Faculty of Environmental Sciences that has just been approved for take-off”.

“The Epe Campus of Lagos State University has a greater and outstanding advantage due to its location; it has a serene and conducive environment for the meaningful learning experience and academic activities, with ample space which is available to accommodate a lot more programmes, Epe Campus is a valuable asset to the University”, he said.

The Chairman, Governing Council, Sir. Sunmoni in his response agreed with Prof. Okuneye that the campus is indeed serene and conducive: “I see that the atmosphere here is very serene. Epe Campus is an important arm of the University with a number of very formidable Faculties located here. We have come to see things for ourselves. We will look at all issues comprehensively with a view of making the campus a place we will all be proud of.”

The former Accountant-General of Lagos also promised that the Council would work with the new VC to make LASU the best university in West Africa.

He said, “The university is moving ahead. We are going to the next level; I am sure you have read the vision and mission of the brand new VC. The Council will give her every support she needs; we will put hands together to ensure that her vision of making LASU the best university in West Africa is fulfilled.”

An introduction of campus members of senior officials of the Epe Campus was followed by the tour proper as the Council members inspected various facilities including hostels, perimeter fence and gates, Staff Quarters, Guest House, halls and classrooms in the School Of Agriculture and Faculty of Engineering, amongst others.

Intent on addressing the nagging issues of land encroachment and security concerns in the campus, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, joined by the Council Chairman, a member of Council, Mrs Yomi Faseun, Acting Registrar, Mr Emmanuel Fanu, Head of Campus, Prof. Okuneye and Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, Mr Lateef Salami, paid courtesy visits to the Commandant, Nigerian Army Ordinance School, Major General Adeyemi Alabi and the Commanding Officer of Epe Army Barracks, Major I. Atumeyi, with whom she discussed issues of harmonious coexistence between men of the Nigerian Army and the Staff and students of the University, campus demarcation and collaborations.

A warm reception and promises by the ranking army officers to work collaboratively with the university management to resolve all issues raised ensured that the team’s visits to the campus’s neighbours were fruitful.

Meanwhile, the official visit saw the introduction of campus members and senior officials of the Epe Campus. The tour proper thereafter kicked off as the Council members inspected various facilities including hostels, perimeter fence and gates, Staff Quarters, Guest House, halls and classrooms in the School Of Agriculture and Faculty of Engineering, amongst others.

Going by comments from the Council members, it is expected that developmental works will commence at the Epe Campus in no distant time.

It was gathered that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello in a bid to find lasting solutions to controversial issues bothering on land encroachment and security concerns in the campus, paid a courtesy visit to the Commandant, Nigerian Army Ordinance School, Major General Adeyemi Alabi and the Commanding Officer of Epe Army Barracks,  Major I. Atumeyi.

The VC who made the visit with the Council Chairman, a member of Council, Mrs Yomi Faseun, Acting Registrar, Mr Emmanuel Fanu, Head of Campus, Prof. Okuneye and Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, Mr Lateef Salami, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello also harnessed issues regarding harmonious coexistence between men of the Nigerian Army and the staff and students of the University, seamless campus demarcation and hitch-free collaborations.

During the warm reception, promises were made with the Army General to collaborate with the University Management to resolve all issues raised fruitfully.

The Council completed the two-day tour at the Lagos State University College of Medicine on Wednesday 10th.
