- LASU Suspends Exams Activities Amid Staff Strike

Lagos State University (LASU) has postponed the 2024/2025 second semester examinations and all related academic and social activities until further notice.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the announcement was made on Saturday by Oluwayemisi Thomas Onashile, Deputy Registrar and Coordinator of the Centre for Information and Public Relations at LASU.

She stated that during a virtual meeting held on Saturday, 2 August 2025, the university’s Senate reviewed a report on the industrial action declared by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of staff unions.
The JAC includes the LASU branches of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Non Academic Staff Union (NASU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), which began on Thursday, 31 July 2025.
Thomas Onashile explained that the Senate, after reviewing the report and a briefing from the Vice Chancellor and Senate Chairman, noted that the primary demands of the Joint Action Committee are directed at the Lagos State Government.
In recent weeks, the university administration has made efforts to mediate and promote a peaceful resolution between the unions and the state government.
She added that, in response, the Lagos State Government organized a meeting on Friday, 1 August 2025, at the office of the Head of Service in Alausa, Ikeja.
The meeting included the University Management, representatives of the Joint Action Committee, officials from relevant ministries, and was chaired by the Head of Service, Mr Olabode Agoro.

At the meeting, all parties agreed to continue discussions and reconvene on Thursday, 7 August 2025.
Following this, the Senate decided that the second semester examinations scheduled to begin on Monday, 4 August 2025, should be suspended, along with all university activities, until further notice.
Additionally, students living in the university hostels at the Ojo, LASUCOM, Epe, and Badagry campuses are required to vacate the premises no later than 6:00 a.m. on Monday.
Members of the LASU community, especially students, are urged to remain calm and comply with all rules during this period.
