Lavrov Accuses UN of Ignoring Ukrainian Incursion in Kursk
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has accused the United Nations of ignoring the actions of Ukrainian forces in Russia’s Kursk region.
Speaking in an interview with TASS during the U.N. General Assembly in New York, Lavrov claimed that Ukrainian “terrorist groups” were using Western-supplied weapons to carry out attacks in the region.
“It is there that they bomb homes every day, bomb social institutions, peaceful citizens moving in their cars to safer places,” Lavrov stated, criticizing the U.N. for its silence.
“I have not heard any voices from U.N. representatives responsible for human rights, including, of course, the secretary general,” he added, referencing U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres.
While Lavrov condemned Ukraine’s actions, Ukraine and various human rights groups have consistently accused Russia of targeting civilians and committing atrocities since its full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022.
Kyiv maintains that it is defending itself against a war of conquest aimed at erasing its national identity.
Russia, on the other hand, continues to frame its invasion as a special military operation to protect its security against Western hostility.

In early August, Ukrainian forces reportedly crossed into the Kursk region, claiming to have captured significant territory, including around 100 settlements.
However, the Russian military has since announced that it has reclaimed some of these areas.
Despite earlier expressing a willingness to negotiate if Kyiv withdrew from four annexed regions, Moscow now insists that no talks are possible while Ukrainian troops remain in Kursk.
Lavrov also directed criticism at Eastern European nations, former Soviet allies now aligned with NATO and the European Union, suggesting that Western leaders hold these countries in low regard.
“Eastern European countries now under the wing of NATO or the roof of the European Union must understand how their masters feel about them,” he was quoted as saying.
“They don’t trust them. They don’t even want to let them anywhere near anything approaching significant job positions.”
In addition, Lavrov touched on the growing global skepticism towards the U.S. dollar, once considered a “world-wide asset” by institutions like the International Monetary Fund and World Bank.
“Where is all this now? Now people are either running from the dollar or, in the case of those too deeply immersed in the system, are trying gradually to reduce their dependence,” he said.
