Agnes Keleti, the world’s oldest Olympic champion and a Holocaust survivor, has passed away at the age of 103.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Keleti died on Thursday in a Budapest hospital after being hospitalized with pneumonia last week, her press officer Tamas Roth confirmed to AFP, following a report by local sports daily Nemzeti Sport.

Her son, Rafael Biro-Keleti, had shared optimism about her resilience just days earlier, telling local press, “We pray for her, she has great vitality.”
Keleti’s extraordinary life story, marked by surviving the Holocaust and achieving Olympic glory, could rival a Hollywood script. Despite facing immense adversity, her indomitable spirit never wavered.
Hungary’s most successful gymnast, Keleti earned 10 Olympic medals, including five golds, all after the age of 30.
She triumphed against younger competitors in Helsinki (1952) and Melbourne (1956), carving her name in sports history.

Her motivation for competing was driven less by the pursuit of glory and more by a desire to explore the world beyond the Iron Curtain in communist Hungary.
“I didn’t compete because I liked it; I did it because I wanted to see the world,” Keleti shared in a 2016 interview with AFP.
