The delegation, led by Dr. Temitope Balogun-Alo, Director of Health Planning, Research and Statistics, briefed the Chairman on the objectives of the campaign, which aims to vaccinate millions of children aged 9 months to 14 years across Lagos State.
According to the delegation, the campaign is critical to protecting children against measles and rubella, two highly contagious diseases known to cause serious complications such as blindness, brain damage, and congenital defects.
Discussions also covered plans for a forthcoming retreat for members of the Conference of 57, designed to strengthen governance capacity and better align local government actions with state health priorities.
Receiving the team, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, who also serves as the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, assured the delegation of the full backing of the Conference of 57, stressing the importance of local governments in driving grassroots health interventions.
“The health of our children is the foundation of Lagos’ future.
We are committed to partnering with the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board and our development partners to ensure that every eligible child is protected and that primary healthcare delivery is strengthened at the grassroots,” he said.
The LSPHCB delegation commended Hon. Olowa’s leadership and emphasized that strong collaboration with all 57 local councils remains vital to achieving high vaccination coverage and sustaining Lagos State’s progress toward the elimination of measles and rubella.
