Eko Hot Blog reports that the Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) Managing Director, Engr. Mukhtaar Temitope Tijani, has solicited for partnership and collaboration towards improved water delivery in the state.

The corporation made the disclosure in a statement issued on Friday.

According to the statement, Engr. Tijani made the initiative during the just concluded 2023 International Water Association (IWA) conference, held in kigali, Rwanda, between Monday 11th- 14th December 2023.

“This is a welcomed development, particularly at this period that the Corporation is facing numerous challenges hindering her performance to meet potable water demand in Lagos State,” the LWC said.

“Challenges such as ageing infrastructure, poor power supply, Water Wastages and theft, among others,

“The 7th Edition, 4-Day Conference/Congress and Exhibition brought together global water and sanitation industry experts to share experience, best practices and new innovations to address the challenges to attaining the Sustainable Development Goal 6. The SDG 6; 1, and 2 seeks to provide ‘clean water and sanitation for all’ by 2030.

“To meet the target, the UN stated that investment in drinking water must be multiplied by 6, sanitation 5 times, and hygiene 3 times. However, only 44 countries are close to meeting the targets, while Africa is still lagging behind.

“To find solution, the congress, organized by the International Water Association (IWA) in partnership with Rwanda’s Water and Sanitation Corporation (WASAC) brought together over 1,300 industry practitioners under the theme: ‘Water, sanitation and climate resilience-keys to a water wise future’.”

The event covered five thematic areas of drinking water treatment and supply; waste water treatment and sanitation service; integrated water management and planning; utility management and operation; governance and finance.

The LWC added that the IWA conference and exhibition was an opportunity to network, share knowledge in best practices in the latest water management technologies and expertise.

Tijani’s plea for support at the water conference came less than two weeks after Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, sought financial aid from global economies to maximize the state’s enormous water potential.
