Oyo state Governors, Seyi Makinde has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies in strengthening efforts to safeguard lives and property across Oyo State.

Makinde described the initiative as the first of its kind in South-West Nigeria, noting that it reflects the shared determination of government and security agencies to improve public safety and tackle violent crimes in the state.

He commended the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, alongside security operatives in Oyo State for their continued efforts in maintaining peace and security.

Speaking on the recent attack and abduction incident in Oriire Local Government Area, Makinde sympathised with families of victims who lost their lives during the assault.
He said the incident underscored the need for government and security agencies to remain proactive in addressing security threats and preventing future occurrences.

According to the governor, his administration has been collaborating closely with security agencies to understand the circumstances surrounding the attack and impove preventive measures.
Makinde also appealed to residents and community leaders to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security authorities.
He assured citizens that the state government would continue to invest in security and strengthen collaboration with law enforcement agencies to keep the state safe.
Earlier, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, described the launch of the Violent Crime Response Unit as a major policing reform designed to improve professionalism, accountability and public confidence in policing.

He explained that the VCRU was created to replace former tactical teams with a more intelligence-driven and human-rights-compliant structure capable of responding swiftly to violent crimes and emerging threats.
According to the police commissioner, officers selected for the unit were chosen based on discipline, operational experience, integrity and competence.
He also praised the Oyo State Government for its continued support toward strengthening security operations and institutional reforms in the state.
Representatives of civil society and human rights organisations at the event also commended the initiative, describing it as a positive step toward improving security and strengthening cooperation among security agencies in Oyo State.
