Residents of Ilorin were thrown into mourning yesterday after a 31- year-old man, Abdullateef Seriki Sanma, died after jumping into a domestic well while reportedly under the influence of banned substances.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the incident occurred at Bolarinwa Compound in the Centre Igboro area of the Kwara State capital.

Abdullateef was said to be the only surviving child of his late mother, Madam Idiah, who had previously lost her other two children. A family source told The Guardian that they began noticing unusual behaviour in him about a week earlier, prompting close relatives to step in.
“We noticed he had been acting strangely since last week. His mother’s younger sister even came from her marital home to stay with him and keep watch,” a relative said.
The source added that the family spent the entire previous day trying to monitor and support him because they feared he might harm himself. Another family member suggested that Abdullateef may have turned to unfamiliar substances following recent financial setbacks.

According to the family, attempts to rescue him began immediately after they discovered he had entered the well in the early hours of the morning. They threw in ladders and ropes in hopes he would reach for them, but they received no response.
When their efforts failed, they called the Kwara State Fire Service.
Confirming the incident, the spokesman of the Service, Hassan Adekunle, said firefighters responded to the distress call on Sunday, twenty three November, at about four thirty three in the afternoon. He explained that responders found that the young man had deliberately entered the well and did not survive.
Adekunle said preliminary findings suggested Abdullateef had made earlier attempts to end his life the previous day and had spoken about harming himself. He made the final attempt while other occupants of the compound were asleep and unable to intervene.
Authorities have urged families to seek help when loved ones show signs of emotional distress or unusual behaviour.
