A 39-year-old man, Joseph Raphael, has been arraigned before an Akure Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a pregnant female dog valued at ₦500,000.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Raphael was brought before the court by the Ondo State Police on a three-count charge bordering on stealing and conspiracy, offences said to contravene Sections 390(9), 495 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
According to the police prosecutor, Adebayo Sulaiman, the defendant and others still at large committed the offence in October 2025 at Atabioloko Street, behind Federal Girls College, Akure. The dog was reportedly stolen from its owner, identified as Bernard Monday.
During the proceedings, Raphael’s counsel, Ogboye, applied for bail, assuring the court that credible and reliable sureties would be presented.

Magistrate Damilola Sekoni granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦200,000, with two sureties in the same amount. The sureties are required to provide affidavits of means, two passport photographs each for themselves and the defendant, and proof of gainful employment. The court also ordered the court registrar to verify the addresses of the sureties.
The case was adjourned to January 16, 2026, for continued hearing.
