The hard-fought win also extended Nigeria’s unbeaten streak in the championship to an impressive 29 games, a run that began in 2017.
D’Tigress have now lifted the continental trophy a record seven times in 2003, 2005, 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023, and 2025 the most by any team in the history of the tournament.
Although the Nigerian side started slowly and trailed 21–26 after the first quarter, they regained composure and matched Mali’s intensity.
Mali, powered by the energetic duo of Sika Koné and Amina Dembele, looked dangerous early on, but Nigeria weathered the storm, with Murjanatu Musa breaking the scoring drought and Victoria Macaulay making key contributions off the bench.
By halftime, both teams were locked at 41–41, with Amy Okonkwo and Ezinne Kalu leading the scoring for Nigeria.

Kalu finished the night with 20 points, while Okonkwo added 19, including a pivotal three-point play in the third quarter that shifted momentum in Nigeria’s favour.
The third quarter proved decisive as Nigeria edged Mali 20–15 in scoring, taking a narrow 61–56 lead into the final stretch.
D’Tigress then closed out the game with a commanding 17–8 run, showing their experience and superior bench depth.
Musa ended the night with nine points and four rebounds, while Promise Amukamara and Macaulay provided solid support on both ends.
Sunday’s victory also marked another milestone for Head Coach Rena Wakama, who became the first woman to coach D’Tigress to an AfroBasket title in 2023.
She now adds a second continental crown to her growing list of achievements, cementing her reputation as one of the brightest coaching talents on the continent.
