- Mimiko had not been contacted or appointed for any political campaign
- Nigerians were yearning for the former president’s return to power.
- The suit also sought to restrain INEC from accepting or publishing his name
Former Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, has denied reports claiming that he was appointed to lead the South West consultation team to persuade former President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the report alleged the recommendation originated from Rauf Aregbesola, a former Osun State Governor and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress.

In a statement released by his spokesperson, Eniola Akinsola, on Monday, Mimiko described the report as false and baseless.“The falsehood in the report is obvious from the start. It is just the work of a journalist spreading a concocted rumour disguised as news,” Akinsola said.

He added that Mimiko had not been contacted or appointed for any political campaign related to the 2027 elections. “Mimiko has neither been reached nor appointed for a campaign that may well remain a subject of speculation. He is certainly not job hunting,” he stated.
The statement noted that as the 2027 elections draw nearer, politically motivated stories are likely to surface, particularly about figures like Mimiko who have chosen to stay away from the political spotlight for now.
Meanwhile, former Minister of Information and Peoples Democratic Party chieftain, Professor Jerry Gana, recently sparked controversy by declaring that Jonathan would contest the 2027 election. He said Nigerians were yearning for the former president’s return to power.
“I can confirm that Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will contest the presidential election in 2027 as the PDP’s candidate, and we should be prepared to vote for him,” Gana had said.

However, a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has been asked to issue a perpetual injunction preventing Jonathan from contesting the 2027 presidential election under any political party.
The suit also sought to restrain the Independent National Electoral Commission from accepting or publishing his name as a nominated candidate.
In a related development, former Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, advised Jonathan against rejoining the presidential race. He said doing so could damage his legacy and warned that the All Progressives Congress would easily defeat him if he decided to contest.
