In an effort to enhance the impact of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, has called for the extension of the programme from one year to two years, Eko Hot Blog reports.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by the newly appointed Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, to the Federal Ministry of Education headquarters in Abuja on Friday, Dr. Alausa emphasized the importance of the NYSC’s Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme in empowering corps members to become job creators rather than job seekers.

“You have done so well as an organization,” Alausa commended. “Let NYSC give people more opportunity to become job creators that will meet the needs of the country.”
Alausa commended the NYSC for its recent digital reforms, which have successfully curbed certificate racketeering among foreign-trained graduates, particularly within the West African sub-region.
In addition, the Minister of Education addressed concerns regarding the national service status of OND part-time graduates who pursued full-time HNDs.

Recognizing the need for fair representation and inclusion, he announced that the Ministry is reviewing the matter to ensure equal opportunities for these individuals.
Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu expressed his gratitude for the minister’s support and innovative leadership within the education sector.
