“I met somebody, but at the time, I was naive. I stayed in the relationship that long because, being an actress, I didn’t want people to blame me for the breakup. However, we were not married; we were just together for 10 years,” she explained.
Adesanya recounted the vicious cycle of abuse—being beaten only to have her partner plead for forgiveness moments later—leaving her confused and emotionally drained. “For ten years, the physical abuse and domestic violence persisted, pushing me into a deep depression and leading me to excessive drinking,” she added.
Alcohol became her refuge. “I would sneak away to grab a bottle of Brandy and find a quiet corner to drink it, just to numb the pain. I’d often finish an entire bottle because I didn’t want to hear his words or feel the blows,” she admitted.
The 55-year-old even revealed that she would secretly visit pharmacies early in the morning to buy alcohol before facing another day in the abusive environment.

A breakthrough came when she experienced a recurring dream three times. “In the dream, I saw a car moving in reverse, with people on the road urging me to leave because it was my time for glory,” she said. Convinced by this vision, she finally found the strength to escape.

“I confided in one of my sisters about what I was going through and asked her to help me. That night, as he went out to the club, my sister Lara arrived. I quickly gathered my belongings, took my son, and left,” she recounted.
Adesanya admitted that she had attempted to leave the relationship three times before, only to return each time. She was previously involved with Nollywood actor Goriola Hassan, with whom she shares a son.
