EKO HOT BLOG reports that Akpanke, who represents Obanliku/Obudu/Bekwara federal constituency in Cross River State, was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), while Nnamchi, who represents Enugu East/Isi-Uzo federal constituency in Enugu State, was a member of the Labour Party (LP).
Their defection letters were read on Tuesday during plenary by the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas. Akpanke said his decision to leave the PDP was due to unresolved internal crises, while Nnamchi cited leadership issues in the LP as his reason for dumping the party.
These latest defections add to the growing number of lawmakers who have crossed over to the APC in recent months, many in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
The trend began on October 2, 2024, when Chris Nkwonta from Abia defected from the PDP to the APC, followed by Sulaiman Abubakar from Zamfara on October 30.
By December 5, four LP lawmakers and one PDP member had joined the APC. In February, PDP members Amos Magaji and Garba Koko also switched to the ruling party.
In March, Jallo Mohammed and Adamu Tanko from the PDP joined the APC, while Clara Nnabuife from Anambra defected from the Young Progressives Party to the All Progressives Grand Alliance.

The defections intensified in May with multiple lawmakers from the PDP and LP moving to the APC, including prominent names like Victor Nwokolo, Julius Pondi, and Nicholas Mutu.
