NCDC Reports Two Deaths, 343 New Cases Of COVID-19
… as COVID-19 Death Toll Hits 1.5 million globally
The spread of the Coronavirus disease in Nigeria continues to increase significantly as the latest figures provided by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reveal Nigeria now has 68,303 confirmed cases.
In its latest case update, the NCDC reported 343 new confirmed cases and 2 deaths, having carried out a total daily test of 7,101 samples across the country.
The new cases were reported from 14 states – FCT (123) Lagos (106) Kaduna (72) Nasarawa (14) Rivers(5), Bauchi (4), Imo (4), Ogun (4), Ekiti (3) Edo (2), Oyo (2), Plateau (2) Akwa Ibom (1) and Kano (1).
Of the total 68,303 cases that have been confirmed, 64,291 cases have been discharged while 1,179 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Nigeria has however tested a total of 779,708 of its estimated over 200 million population.
Meanwhile, over 1.5 million coronavirus-related deaths have been recorded worldwide from nearly 65 million cases.
AFP reports that since late November, there have been more than 10,000 virus deaths globally per day on average, the highest toll rate since the pandemic began.
More than half the COVID-19 deaths registered over the past seven days have been in Europe where new restrictive measures have been introduced in many countries as the second wave of infections takes its toll.
