Niger APC chieftains, Liman, Abdulsalam, Imam dragged to court over alleged defamation
EKO HOT BLOG reports that three former Niger State All Progressives Congress (APC) executives have sued their former colleagues in the Chief Magistrate Court of Bosso for alleged conspiracy and character defamation.
Jibrin Imam, the state’s former APC Chairman, Secretary Barrister Muhammed Liman, and Treasurer, Doctor Shaffi’i Abdulsalam, are among three people named in a joint suit.
They accused the former party executives of colluding and deliberately publishing and providing interviews stating that the state’s party money were misused.
The trio prayed the court to take into cognizance the offences contrary to section 97 and 392 of the Penal Code Law and tried the accused persons accordingly.
However, the counsel to the defendants, Barrister Bukani, raised preliminary objections that his clients were not in court because they were not directly served with court summons.
The counsel to the complainants, Barrister Leri, told the court that the presence of the accused persons was necessary considering the criminal case against them.
However, the Chief Magistrate Court, Ibrahim Shaba adjourned for Friday for further hearing.
