Eko Hot Blog reports that the Niger State government has declared Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday as public holidays to enable the distribution of palliatives to all wards across the 25 local government areas of the state.

Governor Mohammed Umar Bago made the announcement at a press briefing in Minna on Friday. He said the holidays would allow for the smooth and efficient distribution of the palliatives, which include N5 billion in cash and other food items.
Bago said each ward in 21 local government areas would receive N10 million, while wards in Bida, Suleja, Kontagora, and Chachanga local government areas would get N20 million each. He added that N80 million would be given to traditional institutions, N75 million to internally displaced persons (IDPs), N150 million to political parties, and N110 million for logistics and security.

The governor also said the federal government is sending the state 40,000 bags of maize, which will be shared equally among the 4,950 polling units in the state. He said the state government would also augment the N5 billion provided by the federal government with N230 million.
The distribution of palliatives is part of the state government’s efforts to alleviate the suffering of the people, who have been hard hit by the economic crisis.
