This announcement came during his address to the nation, marking the country’s 64th Independence Anniversary.
“As is the tradition, the government will soon announce all the beneficiaries of our national honours for 2024,” President Tinubu stated.

He also confirmed that the Senate President and the Chief Justice of the Federation will receive the prestigious Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON).
The Deputy Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives will be conferred with the title of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR), while the Deputy Speaker of the House will receive Commander of the Order of Niger (CON).
Since its inception on October 1, 1963, a total of 5,347 individuals have been awarded Nigeria’s National Honours, according to records from the Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs.
In 2022, former President Muhammadu Buhari conferred the highest number of awards, honouring 495 people. Former President Goodluck Jonathan followed with 313 recipients in 2013 and 2014.
The National Honours Awards were established by the National Honours Act of 1964, which took retroactive effect from October 1, 1963.
This Act empowers the President to confer honours on deserving citizens who have made significant contributions to Nigeria’s development across various fields.
