Nigeria COVID-19 Toll Crosses 60,000 Mark As NCDC Confirms 111 New Cases
After six consecutive days of no single COVID-19 fatality, two people died from the virulent infection on Saturday as the Nigeria Centre for for Disease Control announces fresh 111 cases.
The development is coming as the country’s COVID-19 toll surpasses 60,000 after eight months of recording its index case of the virus — February 27, 2020.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced the development in its daily update and situation report of the infection.
According to the agency, the new positive cases are confirmed in 10 states and the federal capital territory (FCT) on Saturday, bringing the total figure of confirmed cases to 60,103.
According to the breakdown of new cases confirmed on Saturday, Plateau recorded the highest figure with 32 positive samples, Lagos had 23, while FCT had 15.
Lagos still accounts for the most infections recorded so far with 19,909 cases, followed by FCT with 5,805, and Plateau with 3,536.
The three states with the least infections are Kogi with five cases, and Yobe and Zamfara with 79 infections each — the three states have ranked low in testing capacity.
However, 94 persons were discharged on Saturday, and the figure of recoveries has now hit 51,711.while the current fatality toll stands at 1,115.
