Renowned Nigerian film and stage producer, Kayode Peters, has reportedly passed away in Canada. His death was confirmed on Friday by popular comedian Steve Onu, popularly known as Yaw, in a statement to Peoples Gazette.
Details surrounding Peters’ death remain unclear at this time. Yaw, who confirmed the sad news, mentioned ongoing efforts to reach Peters’ brother for additional information.

“Yes, he is,” Yaw said when asked if Peters had died. “I am still trying to speak with his brother, but he is not picking.”
EKO HOT BLOG reports that Kayode Peters was a celebrated figure in Nigeria’s television and theatre scene. He was widely known for his outstanding contributions to stage plays and sitcoms that significantly shaped the entertainment industry. His most notable works include the popular early 2000s comedy series Flatmates and Extended Family, which became household names across Nigeria.
Peters was widely regarded as a trailblazer and mentor to many actors, comedians, and stage performers, playing a key role in the rise of contemporary Nigerian comedy and theatre.
In another sad development, Nigerian billionaire businessman and philanthropist, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, has also passed away. His death at the age of 94 was confirmed on Saturday by his Principal Private Secretary, Mustapha Abdullahi Junaid.
Junaid shared the news in a statement:
“It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of our beloved father Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata. May Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaus and forgive his shortcomings. The Janazah details will be shared later.”

Alhaji Dantata was the founder of Express Petroleum & Gas Company Ltd. and played a pivotal role in the establishment of Nigeria’s first non-interest (Islamic) bank, Jaiz Bank. He was also a member of the Constitution Drafting Committee responsible for Nigeria’s 1979 Constitution, leaving a significant mark in both the business and political landscapes of the country.
