EKO HOT BLOG reports that according to a statement released on Thursday by Beatrice Turkson, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Western Central Regional Police, the rescue was initiated after the victim’s father, Ogbonna Onuigbo, reported his daughter missing in October 2025. The girl later managed to call her father on October 24, 2025, revealing she had been trafficked to and abused in Ghana.
Police investigations indicated that a suspect known as Golden Blessing, who is currently at large, lured the victim from Enugu to Lagos with the job offer before handing her over to Joy Ogbonna. Ogbonna then transported the teenager to Tarkwa, Ghana. Upon arrival, the suspect allegedly confined the victim, forced her into s*x work, and collected the proceeds. Through the intervention of a helpful passer-by, the victim was able to contact her father, leading to the prompt rescue by police operatives.
The police confirmed the arrest of the 25-year-old suspect, Joy Ogbonna, at Aboso near Tarkwa on Monday, November 3, 2025. Adding to the gravity of the abuse, a medical examination of the 15-year-old victim confirmed she was five weeks pregnant at the time of her rescue.

Joy Ogbonna remains in police custody and is scheduled to be arraigned in court soon. Authorities stressed that efforts are intensified to arrest her accomplice, Golden Blessing, who is believed to be in Nigeria. The Western Central Regional Police Command used the statement to reaffirm its commitment to fighting human trafficking and protecting vulnerable persons from exploitation. The incident is the latest in a series of transnational human trafficking cases involving Nigerian syndicates, following similar arrests and rescues reported in Lagos and Enugu earlier this year.
