Nigeria’s Super Falcons Progress To W’Cup Round Of 16 After 0-0 Draw Against Ireland
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Super Falcons of Nigeria have progressed to the Round of 16 of the ongoing 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup after grinding out a hard fought draw against the Republic of Ireland.
The draw qualified Nigeria to the knockout stages but was not enough to make them finish top of the group ahead of Australia, who they beat 3-2 in their second group stage match.
EDITOR’S PICKS
The best chance of the match fell to Nigeria’s forward Uchenna Kanu who headed the ball on target but a brilliant save from Irish goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan denied Nigeria a well-deserved victory in Brisbane, Australia.
The Republic of Ireland had more of the ball in the first half but the Super Falcons asserted themselves in the second half, enjoying a good spell that almost resulted in a goal.
By finished second in Group B, Nigeria will face Group D’s winner, either of England or China/Denmark, in the Round of 16.
