The Ogun State Government has assured residents that HIV treatment and care will continue uninterrupted despite the temporary suspension of U.S. funding for public health programs.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the State Health Commissioner, Dr. Tomi Coker, gave this assurance on Tuesday following the U.S. government’s 90-day suspension of funding, which includes support for HIV/AIDS programs under USAID.

Coker emphasized that proactive measures have been implemented to ensure continuous healthcare services, with both federal and state governments committed to preventing disruptions.

“To cushion the impact of the funding halt, the state government has ensured the availability of HIV test kits across hospitals and primary healthcare centers, allowing residents access to free HIV testing,” she stated.
She confirmed that treatment centers across Ogun State remain operational, providing medication pick-up and initiating antiretroviral therapy (ART) for newly diagnosed patients at 43 designated sites.
Early Infant Diagnosis tests will continue at two m-PIMA laboratories at Oba Ademola Maternity Hospital and General Hospital, Owode.
Additionally, eligible patients requiring viral load testing will have their blood samples collected and transported for analysis.
Coker highlighted that mentor mothers will work alongside government healthcare workers to maintain HIV services, while the state’s Ministry of Health will coordinate activities across ART sites.

She urged residents to remain calm and support the government’s efforts to sustain HIV/AIDS treatment services.
