The Lagos State Government has asked residents across all five divisions of the state to stay indoors and take part in the monthly environmental sanitation exercise scheduled for Saturday, April 25, from 6:30am to 8:30am.
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a statement issued by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, residents were urged to use the period to clean their surroundings and clear drains in front of their homes before heading out for other activities.

Wahab assured that adequate arrangements have been made to ensure a smooth exercise. He noted that evacuation and compactor trucks have been deployed across the state, with the Lagos Waste Management Authority on standby to promptly remove waste and debris.
To underline the importance of the exercise, top government officials will be actively involved in monitoring compliance.
The First Lady, Claudiana Sanwo-Olu, alongside members of the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO), will lead one monitoring team, while the Head of Service, Olabode Agoro, will head another in a different local government area.
The Commissioner also revealed that major transport unions in the state have agreed to suspend operations during the exercise, meaning vehicles will not be deployed from major parks and terminals within the sanitation hours.

According to Wahab, the decision to bring back the monthly sanitation exercise followed repeated calls from residents who believe setting aside a specific time for environmental cleaning is necessary.
He encouraged Community Development Associations (CDAs) to mobilise residents and ensure widespread participation, noting that the exercise once served as a strong symbol of collective responsibility before it was suspended.
Wahab added that local governments, Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), and some private organisations have also joined the effort by providing tools and logistics support.
He, however, warned that environmental health officers and enforcement teams will be on ground to monitor compliance. Defaulters risk being issued abatement notices and may face prosecution under the 2017 Environmental Management Law of Lagos State.
The reintroduction of the monthly sanitation exercise was earlier announced by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on March 14 during a clean-up exercise at Agege Motor Road in Mushin.
