The Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, has criticized the United States’ attempt to take over Greenland, calling for global cooperation instead.
Frederiksen spoke to the media aboard a navy ship with Greenland’s new Prime Minister, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, and the outgoing leader, Múte B Egede.

She reminded the U.S. government, led by Donald Trump, that nations have worked together for generations to build a peaceful world.

“You cannot take over another country—even if you claim it’s for international security,” she said.
Frederiksen added that if the U.S. wants more security in the Arctic, Denmark and its allies are ready to help. “If you want a bigger presence in Greenland, both Greenland and Denmark are open to cooperation,” she said.
She accused the U.S. of using threats and pressure on both Denmark and Greenland. “What should we think now about the country we’ve admired for so long?” she asked.
Greenland’s new Prime Minister, Nielsen, said open talks are needed but admitted there’s confusion because no real discussions are happening.
