The event brought together dignitaries, community leaders, and well-wishers to celebrate the revered monarch’s remarkable contributions to Epe’s development over the years.
The theme of the lecture, “Leadership, Tradition, and Community Development in Contemporary Society,” underscored the critical role of traditional institutions in shaping modern communities.
The keynote speaker, former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, delivered a powerful address, highlighting the monarch’s impactful reign and his unwavering commitment to the progress of Epeland.
Fashola began by eulogizing Oba Kamorudeen, describing him as a leader who has lived up to the expectations of his title.
He noted that the occasion was a “double-barrel celebration,” marking not only the Kabiyesi’s longevity but also his loyalty and dedication to the people of Epe.

The former governor observed that many in the monarch’s generation are enjoying long life in good health and wealth, which he attributed to improvements in national well-being.
He further noted that leadership, in any capacity, comes with its burdens, but it is essential that these responsibilities do not weigh down those in power.
Reflecting on his time as governor of Lagos State, Fashola recalled that Epe was once embroiled in frequent conflicts.
However, under the reign of Oba Kamorudeen Ishola Animashaun, the narrative has changed, with Epe witnessing significant growth and transformation.
He expressed his admiration for the monarch’s steadfastness and commitment to progress, noting that Epe has evolved beyond its past struggles to become a thriving economic and infrastructural hub.
Fashola also acknowledged the critical role of Oba Kamorudeen in the development of the Lekki-Epe Free Trade Zone, a project that has significantly boosted the region’s economy.
He noted that future generations would forever be grateful to the monarch for his visionary leadership, which has paved the way for new business opportunities, employment, and overall economic expansion.
The former governor further praised the monarch for his unwavering support for major developmental projects such as the Eko Atlantic City, which aims to strengthen Lagos as a global economic powerhouse.
Beyond large-scale economic initiatives, Fashola commended Oba Kamorudeen’s dedication to rural development, particularly in improving roads, schools, and healthcare facilities across Epe.
He stressed that traditional rulers play a vital role in advocating for the welfare of their people, and the Oba Oloja has exemplified this responsibility through his numerous interventions and initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents of Epeland.
However, Fashola also took the opportunity to advise traditional rulers on the importance of maintaining the integrity of chieftaincy appointments.
He noted that key traditional titles such as Otun, Balogun, and Osi were once granted through a rigorous selection process, ensuring that only individuals of impeccable character and strong leadership qualities were appointed. Comparing the system to that of the United Kingdom, he stressed that chieftaincy positions must not be taken lightly, and those chosen to serve must undergo strict vetting processes to uphold the dignity of the institution.
The former governor concluded his speech with heartfelt prayers for Oba Kamorudeen Ishola Animashaun, wishing him many more years of good health, prosperity, and continued development for Epeland.
He emphasized that the monarch’s legacy would be remembered for generations, as his reign has ushered in a new era of growth, stability, and progress for the people of Epe.
The anniversary lecture was not only a celebration of the Kabiyesi’s eight decades of life and two decades on the throne but also a reaffirmation of his profound impact on leadership, tradition, and community development.
