EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a statement issued on Thursday, February 27, Obasa described the attack on security operatives as “highly regrettable” and emphasized that such an incident should never have occurred.
His apology comes just hours after he returned to the Assembly complex, where he controversially declared himself Speaker despite opposition from a majority of lawmakers.
Obasa, who was removed from office in January, previously held a contentious plenary session attended by only a handful of legislators. The statement he released expressed deep remorse over the events, acknowledging the critical role of security agencies in maintaining law and order.
“On behalf of the Lagos State House of Assembly, I apologize to the security agencies, particularly the DSS operatives who were assaulted as seen in widely circulated videos. We value your service and the role you play in ensuring the protection of lives and property in Lagos,” Obasa stated.
He further noted that the Assembly had requested additional security support on that day, as was customary, and regretted that the situation escalated into violence.
“The Lagos Assembly and security agencies have always maintained a cordial relationship. We sincerely hope that this incident does not strain the partnership we have built over the years,” he added.

Obasa also appealed for leniency towards those facing legal action over the incident, expressing hope for an amicable resolution.
