EKO HOT BLOG reports that this development follows a marathon meeting of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) at the Lagos Governor’s Lodge in Marina on Monday. Sources said the council, which includes key state lawmakers, deliberated extensively on the issue and insisted Obasa’s removal on January 13, 2025, was unlawful and disrespectful to the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership in Lagos.
GAC members confirmed that the lawmakers were directed to formally communicate their grievances to Tinubu, who is the party’s national leader.
The GAC is the highest decision-making body of the APC in Lagos, and its members hold key positions across the state, including in the Lagos Assembly. The meeting was attended by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, and top lawmakers.
A senior GAC member, Chief Muraina Taiwo, revealed that while the council advised lawmakers to follow the party’s stance, they remained resolute in backing Mojisola Meranda, who was unanimously elected Speaker after Obasa’s ouster.
Speaking to The PUNCH, Taiwo stressed the need for lawmakers to allow Obasa to return before making a decision on his resignation.
“The lawmakers have made up their minds. They plan to write their grievances to Tinubu and await a response before taking further steps,” he said.
Taiwo also clarified that Obasa could not be forced to resign. “The lawmakers should follow the party’s directive and let him resume. If he chooses to step down, that’s his decision,” he added.
Another GAC member, who spoke anonymously, confirmed that the lawmakers were instructed to write to Tinubu.
Amid reports that Tinubu disapproved of Obasa’s removal and demanded a reversal, speculations emerged that lawmakers were required to send two letters—one apologizing for failing to consult party leaders and another proposing Obasa’s resignation instead of outright removal.
Meanwhile, GAC Chairman Chief Tajudeen Olusi declined to comment on the council’s official position, stating, “At the appropriate time, we shall talk.”

The Lagos Assembly has yet to officially respond to inquiries, while its spokesperson, Hon. Ogundipe Olukayode, remained unreachable as of Tuesday night.
