The management of the Nigerian Railway Corporation has confirmed that a train incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. near Asham, involving a rear locomotive and a passenger coach.
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a statement signed by the Managing Director, Kayode Opeifa, the corporation explained that early findings point to a coupling fault. According to the report, the rear locomotive made contact with the coach directly behind it, leading to the incident.

Some passengers sustained injuries during the disruption, but officials said they were quickly attended to and taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment. The NRC confirmed that no lives were lost.
Emergency response teams were activated immediately, with technical crews dispatched to the scene. The Safety Investigation Bureau is also on ground to carry out a detailed investigation in line with standard safety procedures.
Meanwhile, an eyewitness who shared his experience on X described the moment as frightening. According to the user, there was a loud bang before the train suddenly jerked, causing passengers to lose balance and some to sustain visible injuries.
The train was delayed for about 30 minutes before continuing its journey toward Kubwa.

The NRC added that the train eventually arrived at Idu station at about 10:39 a.m., running 38 minutes behind schedule due to the time spent removing the affected locomotive and coach.
Reassuring the public, the corporation said passenger safety remains its top priority and that steps are being taken to prevent a recurrence. It also promised to provide further updates as more details emerge.
