The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) gives Olanike Nafisat Balogun her flowers as she makes history as the first female pilot.

In a post released on their social media pages today, December 9, 2024, the NCS spokesperson Abdullahi Maiwada said Olanike has shown consistent dedication to the service.

Balogun, who is a Deputy Superintendent of Customs, is the first female pilot in NCS, and she is a source of inspiration to women within and outside the service.

Balogun started her career in 2002 and advanced to earn an Advanced Diploma in Air Ticketing and Cabin Services also getting a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Ahmadu Bello University, and finally getting her Pilot Certification from the Flying Academy in Miami, Florida, all with the help of the NCS sponsorship.

“Staying in the Service when many of my colleagues chose better-paying airline jobs was a tough choice, but I was firm on contributing to public service and achieving my goal of becoming a pilot.

“My role as the first female pilot in the service shows my commitment as a woman to advance my dream as well as the operational capabilities of the Nigerian Customs Service” she said.

“I hope my journey will motivate the Nigerian Youths, especially women, to chase their dreams.”

The Controller General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, applauded her dedication and described her achievement as a testament to the Service’s commitment to growth and innovation.

“Her story shows what is possible with determination, dedication and institutional support,” he said.
