“It is essential for members of our Armed Forces to maintain peak physical and mental fitness to meet the challenges of our duties and national expectations. When our personnel are fit, they can deliver effectively,” he said.

Oluyede explained that the archery competition not only promotes physical well-being but also reinforces core military values, including integrity, precision, dedication, innovation, and excellence, while fostering unity and camaraderie among service members.
He added that the event doubles as a trial and selection platform for Nigeria’s Armed Forces team ahead of upcoming national and international archery championships.
“The timing of this competition is significant, considering the security challenges facing our nation. Non-combat initiatives like sporting events contribute to operational readiness and overall effectiveness,” Oluyede noted.

He described archery as a discipline that demands focus, perseverance, and mental fortitude, praising participants for displaying high levels of talent, professionalism, and competitive spirit.
The defence chief also commended the organisers and all participating units for their dedication, encouraging competitors to leverage the experience gained during the contest.
By the end of the tournament, the Nigerian Army claimed the top position, winning four gold, four silver, and three bronze medals.

The Nigerian Navy followed with three gold, five silver, and two bronze medals, while the Nigerian Air Force secured third place.
The Chief of Defence Staff Inter-Service Archery Competition is held annually to enhance physical fitness, teamwork, and precision among personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
