The former Anambra State governor explained that his decision is grounded in a leadership philosophy that places national interest above personal ambition.

He stressed that meaningful governance should not require more than four years to lay the foundation for impactful change.
“My pledge to serve only one term is sacrosanct,” Obi stated. “It is not a political calculation; it is a principle. History is full of examples of leaders who made lasting impact within a short time.
In the United States, John F. Kennedy left a legacy in less than four years. In Africa, Nelson Mandela served only one term in South Africa despite the people’s desire for him to continue.”
He added that those who doubt his sincerity are doing so based on their own values, not his.
“I understand the skepticism. They are measuring me by their standards where promises are routinely broken. But I am not of that mold. My record, both in public and private service, is available and verifiable.”
Obi maintained that purposeful leadership is not about how long one stays in power, but about the impact made in the shortest possible time.
