During a Ramadan lecture in Iwo, the Oluwo alleged that he intervened in a court case that could have hindered Oba Ogunwusi’s appointment. According to him, a mutual ally, Akin Daodu, facilitated communication between them.
“In 2015, Akin Daodu, a close ally of the then Prince Adeyeye Ogunwusi, called me seeking assistance with his aspiration to the Ooni throne. While I was closer to his elder brother, Tunji Ogunwusi, I chose to support Adeyeye after Tunji underestimated me,” the Oluwo said.
He claimed that after speaking to key individuals involved in the litigation, the case was resolved in the Ooni’s favor, paving the way for his appointment.
Expressing disappointment, the Oluwo accused the Ooni of using others to destabilize his territory and working against him. He also claimed the Ooni supported his former wife against him.
“To my surprise, the same person I helped become Ooni has been plotting against me. He wants me removed as Oluwo, but that will never happen,” he asserted.
In response, the Director of Media at the Ooni’s palace, Chief Moses Olafare, downplayed the Oluwo’s accusations, stating that the Ooni would not dignify them with a reaction.
