Opinion: Letter To Bola Tinubu
Asiwaju, I read a press release where you reacted to the insinuations that you were the one who ordered military personnel to shoot some protesters at Lekki Tollgate. The press release came when my people in Ekiti State were actively pressurizing me for the honest account of performance of their current state governor in his more than 2 years of being at the saddle.
But I had to put the issue of Ekiti on hold. According to the elders, when trees are felled, one over the other. At evacuation, the one at the top should be carried first. In my own judgement of events, this writing is the tree at the top in these two scenarios. Reason? Because of the matter of human lives It Involved, looting of many private property, the destruction of public offices at near national scale and the burning of the good business investment of yours which are also involved.
I am therefore not owing anyone any apology for expressing my sympathy over the selective destruction of only private places where you own or where you are suspected to have economic interests in Lagos.
Honestly, this selective attack on somebody who is not occupying any public office had detracted greatly from the value and credibility of the protest. It has also eroded public confidence in the earlier acclaimed spontaneity of the protest as it was at some points began to appear like an organised protest to end any of your future political endeavors before it ever exist.
So, by the reason of my own genetic makeup, I may not be able to follow the popular hypocritical ritual of sending condolences to the bereaved families of yet to be identified victims of the alleged Lekki Tollgate shootings until their names and photographs are published.
I doubt whether Governor Sanwoolu is still where you think he is. If he is still there, I wonder why he is pretending not to know that publishing the names and the pictures of the victims of such incident is the very foundation on which any genuine investigation panel should stand, in this 21st century.
Your written reaction, no doubt, did what it was meant to do using fine logic, and many literary instrument. The press release succeeded in proving your innocence. It absolved you from the blame of exercising the power of a Garrison Commander at Lekki .
If the love we daily profess for Jagaban is genuine, we should be able to tell him the truth. With due respect sir, that whole volume of your press release only minored on the major and majored only on the minor.
Your reaction addressed the shooting allegation only and ignored completely what was supposed to be the most important thing to a politician like you which is to know what could be the reason why your own people, your own immediate political constituency (Yoruba) had to buy so easily such a ridiculous allegation sold to them by your detractors. It is important because we cannot say with certainty the volume and varieties of what the sellers of those bad stuff are still having on their stock for future dealings which your people may likely continue to buy as long as the root cause of their grievances are not properly addressed.
You must not forget that the Joker that brought you this far in Nigeria’s political landscape was the firm grip you consistently had on the southwest geopolitical structure. And you should know that once that is taken away from you, God forbid, everything is over.
If you have been following political developments after Buhari’s electoral victory in his ongoing second term as President, you would agree with me that there is no other target than to take the Southwest away from you.
First, it was you didn’t say anything against the killer herdsmen as if the herdsmen were constituted for you to say something. Second, it was a popular question of what is Tinubu’s take on the establishment of Amotekun, Third, it was Tinubu has no respect for Yoruba culture and that he has not been according Ooni of Ile-Ife, the respect he deserves. Fourth, and the most recent one, it was Tinubu was the one who ordered fire on his own people in Lagos, all these things coming in less than 2 years. As you can see sir, everything is about Tinubu and his Yoruba people.
The very valuable information at the disposal of your political adversaries within your party, APC, is that no one can betray Tinubu in 2023 without a very huge cost as long as the SouthWest is still standing by him.Hence, doing diplomacy or crude party politics with future episodes of the season film of “Yoruba and Tinubu” is not of use again. President Buhari, the person because of whom you are doing all that, is not in any way bothered about the future of the APC party. If he is, he wouldn’t have increased fuel prices and electric tariffs at a time his party was having a governorship election in Edo State.
As the case may be, Lagos is and would remain our own Jerusalem in Yoruba land. Whatever happens in Lagos will affect every family in the South West. The economic hardship which Buhari’s policy of border closure on Rice and other stuffs, which had long been the economic mainstay of Lagosians, had caused Nigerians, tells more on the Yoruba people, than any other Nigeria citizens. As a result, Yoruba people are not feeling too good.
Omo Iyaloja, Yoruba people are angry with you. Because, many of them are of the opinion that you have betrayed their trust by selling Buhari to them twice. They believed Buhari would not have won anytime if not for your political wits.
And that you have not been saying anything to their plight. They think you are probably pleased with the way they are being tormented.
The son of Olodo-Ide, we cannot continue to wrangle in defence of another person’s head while a hawk takes away our own. Politics can be a very shocking game. President Buhari for whom you are taking all these stabs might decide not to reciprocate your good gesture in future, peradventure, you have political ambition.
Not only that, he might decide to take advantage of your strained relationship with your people to take you to the cleaners in 2023 in favour of anybody who is able to win his favour.
Your Excellency, try and ponder over the song of that ace Yoruba singer, Yinka Ayefele. Ayefele said, “whatever bad you become while trying to make people good is what they would use to mock you later at their leisure “.
Therefore, there is no time to waste sir. You may need to do another press release very soon. Let your people know who is actually tormenting them. If you have ever advised the federal government against her anti people/southwest policies in the secret, start referring to it in open fora.. In your next press release, let your people know how much you have tried to give them good life under this administration.
Jagaban, for Jagaban that you are, no time is more appropriate to demonstrate good courage than now. If the wish of some of your admirers for you to become the next Nigeria president gets God’s approval, nobody can stop you, not even President Donald Trump , not to talk of a president at the level of Nigeria.
You are not the first person who would find himself in this kind of political situation. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo was once in that shoe. The then president Jonathan and some of his cronies saw themselves as Supermen who did not need any counsel again. And when they began to sing funeral hymns on wedding events, Obasanjo openly tore their useless card into pieces. The rest is now history. All of those who were involved are alive till date licking their wounds.
Now, that one of your students at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu University of Politics Lagos (BATUP) is being encouraged by some mischief makers from other region to start moving around like the owner of the school, we beseech God who trained Obasanjo’s fingers to tear into pieces, to teach you what to tear at the appropriate time.
Baba, we cannot say everything this once. There are many more things to write but their times have not yet come.
Till then, kindly extend my greetings to every member of your household, particularly, your wife, the collected mother of the nation, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. Gbenga Ogedengbe is my name. Wishing you God’s guidance in all your future endeavors.
Thank you sir.
