Osimhen Breaks 45-Year Record, Becomes Nigeria’s Second-Highest Goalscorer

Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has further cemented his place in Nigerian football history by surpassing the legendary Segun Odegbami to become the Super Eagles’ second-highest goalscorer of all time.

The landmark moment occurred on Friday evening in Kigali during Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda. Osimhen broke the deadlock in the 11th minute, converting a precise free-kick delivery from Ademola Lookman.

Before the match, the 26-year-old was level with Odegbami on 23 goals. His latest strike took him to 24 international goals, putting him second only to the late Rashidi Yekini, who remains Nigeria’s all-time top scorer with 37 goals.
