The Oyo State Police Command has apprehended two individuals accused of exhuming corpses and selling human body parts to ritualists, uncovering a disturbing trade in human remains.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that according to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, the arrests followed a crucial tip-off received by detectives at the Iyaganku Divisional Police Headquarters.

“During the search, a female human torso, severed limbs, dried bones, and other dismembered remains stored in bags and a paint bucket were recovered,” Osifeso stated.
One of the suspects confessed to exhuming a corpse from a cemetery in Awa-Ijebu, Ogun State, and selling the remains to ritualists. His confession led detectives to a second suspect, a septuagenarian, who allegedly purchased human body parts and admitted his involvement in the illicit trade.
The case has been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation, with efforts underway to apprehend other suspects linked to the operation.
Meanwhile, Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Johnson Ademola, has warned cemetery managers to enhance security amid rising cases of corpse exhumation. He also urged transporters to remain vigilant and inspect passengers’ luggage to prevent inadvertently aiding such criminal activities.
