- Audrey Crews becomes first woman to use Neuralink brain chip
- She draws, writes by controlling a computer with her thoughts
- Implant involves 128 threads in the motor cortex
A paralysed woman, Audrey Crews, has stunned the world by writing and drawing using only her thoughts—thanks to Elon Musk’s brain-computer technology, Neuralink.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that Crews, who has been paralysed for nearly 20 years, shared her experience on X (formerly Twitter), where she posted the first drawing and handwritten signature she created using the Neuralink chip. She described the experience as “just a normal day using telepathy.”

“Here are some more of my doodles! I’m taking requests. Lol. Imagine your pointer finger is left click and the cursor movement is with your wrist. Without physically doing it,” she wrote on her handle @NeuraNova9.
Neuralink, founded by Musk in 2016, is a brain-computer interface (BCI) company that enables people to control external devices such as computers or robotic arms using their minds. The technology works by sending neural signals from the brain through a tiny chip implant.
Crews said she underwent brain surgery at the University of Miami Health Center, where a hole was drilled into her skull to implant the chip, which features 128 ultra-thin electrode threads connected to her motor cortex.

“It was brain surgery — they drilled a hole in my skull and placed 128 threads into my motor cortex. The chip is about the size of a quarter. The staff at the University of Miami Health Center were awesome. They treated me like a VIP and are some of the sweetest people I’ve ever met,” she explained.
She also clarified the limitations of the implant: it will not enable her to walk or regain physical movement. Its main use, for now, is facilitating “telepathic” control over digital devices.
“I want to clarify this implant will not allow me to walk again or regain movement. It’s strictly for telepathy only,” she stated.
The Neuralink chip is fully implantable and cosmetically invisible. It is powered by a small battery that charges wirelessly and is designed for mobile use.
The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) gave Neuralink approval to begin human trials in May 2023. Elon Musk had earlier said the trial results so far are “promising,” despite ongoing federal probes into the company’s animal testing methods.
Audrey, who is the first woman in the world to use the Neuralink chip, promised to share more videos soon, stating, “We are still in Miami, but I’ll be home soon and we’ll post more vids explaining the process in more detail.”
