Sowunmi recently attracted criticism after sharing photos of his visit to the former president on his social media account.

This came barely a few days after a spokesperson for the Atiku Abubakar presidential campaign, Daniel Bwala, also visited President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking in an interview with Sunday PUNCH, Sowunmi said his intention for the visit was to learn from Buhari’s experience, saying, “Maybe I will be a leader tomorrow.”

He said, ‘I went to visit him (Buhari) to have that discussion that one would have with a person with experience as former President Muhammadu Buhari would have. I was there to ask him questions that bother on the future of this country and I was very lucky, I met him and he was very happy to receive me. He said to me, you are my son, you can come anytime you want to come.

“One thing that Nigerian people need to understand is that it is easy for people to sit down and abuse their leaders when things go wrong, thinking it is politics that they are playing. I don’t play like that. I always assume that there must be a reason why things did not go the way they were supposed to go and sometimes when I have the opportunity to meet such leaders, I ask questions about what happened maybe I will be a leader tomorrow so that I can learn from some of their experiences, respect some of their contributions and I can thank them for their efforts because we are talking about a nation with about 220 million people.”
