Factions loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, within the Peoples Democratic Party have intensified moves to secure alternative political platforms ahead of the 2027 general elections, amid deepening uncertainty over the party’s ability to field candidates.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Party sources said the two blocs are exploring the All Progressives Congress and the African Democratic Congress as possible platforms for their aspirants. The moves are reportedly driven by fears that the PDP may be shut out of the 2027 polls due to unresolved leadership disputes and protracted court cases involving its rival factions.
Concerns heightened after the Independent National Electoral Commission rejected the PDP’s Ekiti governorship candidate, Wole Oluyede, for the June 20, 2026 election. Oluyede emerged from a primary organised by the Taminu Turaki led National Working Committee, aligned with Governors Makinde, Bala Mohammed, Dauda Lawal and Ahmadu Fintiri. The rival faction loyal to Wike did not conduct a primary, with both camps laying claim to the party’s national leadership.
INEC has repeatedly insisted that the PDP must resolve its internal crisis before it can be recognised to field candidates. Sources said this position has triggered serious anxiety within the party, prompting discussions around alternative platforms.
A member of the Turaki led NWC confirmed that talks with the ADC were already ongoing, warning that the PDP might not be able to present candidates in 2027 if the crisis persists. He said the alliance talks were aimed at protecting the interests of aspirants who could be stranded.
Confirming the discussions, a senior ADC official said meetings had taken place with PDP leaders from the Turaki faction, though he stressed that talks were still at an early stage. ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi said the party remained open to Nigerians willing to join what he described as a rescue mission.

Meanwhile, Timothy Osadolor, an NWC member aligned with Wike’s bloc, said the PDP would struggle in 2027 even if it managed to produce a presidential candidate, blaming the crisis on internal divisions and poor leadership.
