- Ologunagba says PDP has capable governors for presidency
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is grappling with a new wave of internal tension as party stakeholders remain sharply divided over who should fly the party’s presidential flag in the 2027 elections.
According to reliable sources of EKO HOT BLOG within the party revealed that camps loyal to different power blocs have begun pushing their preferred candidates. One faction, believed to be aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, is reportedly drumming support for former Anambra State governor Peter Obi.
Another group is backing former President Goodluck Jonathan, arguing he remains the most formidable option to challenge President Bola Tinubu. A third group is quietly campaigning for Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde.

As this internal jostle intensifies, the PDP on Monday officially inaugurated a 110-member organising committee ahead of its national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State. The convention is expected to play a decisive role in shaping the direction of the party and setting the tone for 2027.
In a statement, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, explained that the organising committee is tasked with ensuring seamless preparations for the exercise. The committee is chaired by Adamawa State governor Ahmadu Fintiri, with Osun governor Ademola Adeleke serving as deputy chairman. Former minister Kabir Turaki (SAN) is deputy chairman 2, while Enugu governor Peter Mbah takes the role of secretary. Senator Adolphus Wabara, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, will represent the BOT.

Party insiders say the composition of the committee was carefully structured to reflect regional balance and manage growing tensions surrounding the race for the presidential ticket.
In recent months, talks have resurfaced suggesting that the PDP is looking to bring both Jonathan and Obi back into its fold, amid uncertainty over the party’s direction.
However, Ologunagba downplayed the speculations, stating that the PDP is already home to several performing and qualified leaders.
“In our party today, we have many qualified, performing governors who can be president,” he told reporters.
Speaking further, he said: “On Jonathan, I don’t speak for him. Ask him yourself. The same with Obi. I don’t know why you are asking me that question; go ask Obi. It’s not for me to speculate.”
