The Edo State Commissioner for Information, Kassim Afegbua, has said that former presidential candidate Peter Obi ought to have informed the state government before entering Edo State.
Afegbua made the remarks on Wednesday during an appearance on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, while reacting to the recent gunmen attack involving Obi and chieftains of the African Democratic Congress.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the incident, described in some quarters as an assassination attempt on the former Anambra State governor and other ADC members, has generated widespread reactions across the country.
Addressing the development, Afegbua stated that Obi is a politically exposed person and, as such, should have extended the courtesy of notifying the state government before his visit.
He also clarified that Governor Monday Okpebholo was misinterpreted when he previously advised Obi to seek clearance before coming into the state.
“People misinterpreted what Governor Okpebolo meant when he made the statement in July last year, to the extent that anytime Peter Obi wants to come to Edo, he should please inform the state government.
“But because Obi is a politically exposed person, we would expect that he would extend the courtesy of informing the government of the day.
“What happened in Edo should be located within the ambit of the ADC, one factional group of the ADC versus another faction of the ADC,” Afegbua said.

He suggested that the incident should be viewed as an internal issue within the ADC rather than a broader security breakdown in the state.
