- Ogbunike Cave is one of the tourist attraction in Anambra State.
- It is specifically located in Ogbunike town in Oyi Local Government Area.
- The cave is also situated in the hometown of former Nigerian Senate President, late Chief Chuba Okadigbo.
According to a report, the cave was discovered by a local Hunter, who was identified as Ukwa, in a valley with tropical rain forest, it is situated behind a school called St. Monica College, Ogbunike.
Descending into the cave proper lies a staircase that contains 317 steps which was said to have been built by Anambra State Government in 1990s in order to access the cave easily.
EKO HOT BLOG gathered that tradition demands that anybody who would like to enter the cave must remove his or her footwear.
The cave is highly complicated that one can easily get lost inside because it has entrance tunnels leading to different places inside and within the tunnels are big chambers that also have tunnels leading to other places too, though, some of the tunnels are interconnected.
In the cave, there are places where you see bats of different sizes and also small streams in various places in the same cave.
The historical site has a spiritual and traditional significance to the locals who hold annual festival called “Ime Ogbe” in rememberance of its discovery centuries ago and by the side is a river called “Nkisa” that flows by the side of the cave.
