Police Kill Notorious Armed Robber, Recover Arms In Edo

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Edo State have killed a suspected notorious armed robber.

The force confirmed this in a statement handed to newsmen on Tuesday by the command’s Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Jennifer Iwegbu.

The statement noted that the command had received a distress call that a gang of armed robbers were operating along the Abuja Quarters, by Benson Idahosa University in Benin early in the morning.

Iwegbu explained in the statement that operatives attached to Ugbor Divisional Headquarters acted swiftly and approached the scene of the incident.

According to her, on arrival at the scene, the suspects who have sighted the police operatives coming engaged them in a gun duel.

Iwegbu said the superior firepower from the police operatives neutralized one of the suspected armed robbers.

Iwegbu explained further that the police operatives were led by the DPO in charge of the police division.

The PPRO said the operatives recovered some items from the criminals which include a pump-action gun and five live cartridges.

The police statement titled ‘Death Of Notorious Armed Robber/Recovery Of Arms And Ammunitions’ reads: “In its unrelenting efforts to stem the increasing rate of armed robbery and other vices in the state, Operatives of Edo state police command attached to its Ugbor divisional headquarters on 12/07/2022 at about 0445hrs neutralised an armed robbery suspect.

“Following a distress call to the Divisional Police officer in charge of Ugbor division at about 0445hrs of 12/07/2022, that there was an ongoing armed robbery operation along Abuja quarters by Benson Idahosa University, Ugbor G.R.A, Benin-city, the DPO personally led operatives to the scene with the aim to arrest the suspects.

“On arrival at the scene, the suspects sighting the police operatives engaged them in a gun duel. However, the superior firepower from the police operatives neutralized one of the suspected armed robbers.

“Items recovered from the Suspect include one pump action gun and 5 live cartridges.”

Iwegbu said efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing gang members while she also confirmed that the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Police Command, CP Abutu Yaro, has reinstated the command’s readiness and commitment to fighting crimes and criminality in the state.
