EKO HOT BLOG reports that Speaking at the event held at the Police Training School in Bauchi, the Inspector General of Police (IG), Kayode Egbetokun, represented by the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, Auwal Muhammad, emphasized the importance of professionalism, fairness, and friendliness in their roles.
Egbetokun highlighted that the training program was designed to prepare the recruits for the complex security challenges Nigeria faces while adhering to the principles of the law.
“The exercise marks the culmination of a six-month rigorous training programme that has pushed the recruits to their physical and intellectual limits,” the IG said. He further noted that the curriculum included modern law enforcement principles, fundamental policing ethics, norms, and practices to equip the constables for effective service.
The IG revealed that the recruitment of these 10,000 constables is part of a broader initiative approved by President Bola Tinubu to recruit 30,000 officers annually over the next few years. This initiative aims to strengthen the internal security framework, improve police performance, and enhance service delivery nationwide.
Egbetokun expressed confidence in the capacity of the new officers, stating that their deployment to their home states under the community policing model is a strategic move to reinforce law enforcement efforts at the grassroots level. He urged the constables to demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and empathy in their duties while maintaining firmness and fairness in their interactions with the public.
The IG stressed, “Your role demands empathy and compassion towards the civilian population, particularly the vulnerable, while maintaining firmness and fairness in all interactions. The uniform you wear is a symbol of trust and responsibility, never to be exploited for intimidation, harassment, or perversion of justice.”
Egbetokun also reiterated his commitment to the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to reform and transform the Nigeria Police Force into a capable institution equipped to fulfill its internal security mandate.

He urged the constables to uphold patriotism, discipline, and loyalty to the Force, while avoiding lawlessness, human rights abuses, and unprofessional conduct. The IG concluded by encouraging the new officers to be agents of hope and confidence for the public, thereby enhancing the credibility and honor of the Nigeria Police Force.
