EKO HOT BLOG reports that England, Portugal, Ghana and Egypt still have one group fixture remaining, but results elsewhere have mathematically guaranteed their progression to the knockout stage of the expanded 48 team tournament.
Paraguay, meanwhile, have completed all three of their group matches. Their four point tally was enough to confirm qualification for the next round.
The expanded 2026 World Cup format features 48 teams divided into 12 groups. The top two teams in each group automatically qualify for the Round of 32, while the eight best third placed teams also advance.
With four points already secured, England, Portugal, Ghana, Egypt and Paraguay can no longer fall below the qualification threshold, regardless of the outcome of their remaining matches.
Their qualification was confirmed after several third placed teams in completed groups failed to reach four points. South Korea finished third in Group A with three points, Scotland ended third in Group C with three points, while either Uruguay or Cape Verde will finish third in Group H with a maximum of three points. Senegal also concluded their campaign in third place in Group I with three points.
As a result, none of those teams can overtake England, Portugal, Ghana, Egypt or Paraguay in the race for one of the eight best third placed qualification spots.
The confirmed qualification gives England, Portugal, Ghana and Egypt the advantage of approaching their final group matches without the pressure of elimination. However, the remaining fixtures will still determine final group positions and could influence their opponents in the knockout stage.

With the group stage nearing its conclusion, more nations are expected to secure qualification as the race for the 2026 FIFA World Cup title gathers momentum.
