EKO HOT BLOG reports that despite this, market prices remain high, affecting construction projects nationwide.
As of this week, the prices of major cement brands in Nigeria are as follows:
Dangote Cement – ₦9,900 to ₦10,500 per 50kg bag
BUA Cement – ₦8,000 to ₦11,000 per 50kg bag
Lafarge Cement – ₦9,100 to ₦10,500 per 50kg bag
Ibeto Cement – ₦9,500 to ₦10,500 per 50kg bag
UniCem Cement – ₦11,500 to ₦13,500 per 50kg bag
Amid rising prices, Minister of Works, David Umahi, has directed manufacturers to cut the price of a 50kg bag to ₦7,000. He questioned the wide gap between ex-factory and retail prices, urging cement producers to reconsider their pricing structure.
“We need to address this issue and find a common ground,” Umahi stated.
Manufacturers blame the price hike on production costs, exchange rate fluctuations, and demand-supply issues. However, with construction costs soaring, the government insists on immediate action to ease the burden on consumers.
With the government’s intervention, all eyes are on cement manufacturers to see if they will comply. For now, consumers continue to grapple with high prices, waiting for possible relief.
